Speaking at the 14th ITM in Tawang, Suman Billa, Additional Secretary and Director General, Ministry of Tourism, mentioned that $680 million in tourism and hospitality investments were signed at Rising Northeast Investors Summit in 2025. More than 3,600 hotel rooms are under construction across the Northeast, creating an opportunity for hospitality businesses and travel companies to prepare for the region’s next phase of tourism growth, Billa said.
During his address, he said the region already had more than 3,000 hotel rooms, with the additional capacity expected to expand accommodation options as connectivity improves and more destinations become accessible to travellers. Investment commitments are also supporting the sector’s growth prospects.
Referring to the 2025 Rising Northeast Investors Summit, Billa said that of the $680 million worth investments signed in tourism and hospitality, $190 million had already been granted. The growth in accommodation capacity comes as connectivity across the region improves. The number of airports in the Northeast has increased from nine in 2014 to 17, while 90 new routes within the region have been operationalised over the past decade. Billa said the infrastructure expansion would enable the industry to plan more extensive itineraries and move visitors across a wider range of destinations.
