Novotel hotels across India marked World Ocean Day with a series of environmental and community initiatives, reinforcing the brand’s sustainability agenda through beach and river clean-up drives, conservation activities, educational programmes, and responsible dining experiences across its portfolio.
The campaign, undertaken by Novotel properties nationwide, focused on ocean conservation, environmental awareness, and community engagement. Activities brought together hotel teams, guests, and local communities, reflecting the brand’s global partnership with WWF France and its commitment to protecting marine ecosystems.
Properties in coastal destinations led clean-up drives to help reduce marine pollution. Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach organised a coastline clean-up with local community members, while Novotel Goa Panjim conducted a beach clean-up at Miramar Beach. In Chennai, Novotel Chennai Chamiers Road, Novotel & ibis Chennai OMR, and Novotel Chennai SIPCOT joined other Accor hotels for a large-scale clean-up at Akkarai Beach. Similar conservation initiatives were organised by Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach, The Bheemili Resort Managed by Accor, and Novotel Kochi Infopark.
Beyond coastal regions, hotels also focused on inland ecosystems. Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC conducted a lake clean-up near the property, while Novotel Lucknow Gomti Nagar organised a clean-up drive at Kudiya Ghat along the Gomti River. Novotel Guwahati combined a cleanliness campaign along the Brahmaputra River with a community seed-sowing initiative.
Sustainability awareness and guest engagement
Several hotels organised educational programmes to encourage greater awareness of environmental conservation. Activities included sustainability workshops, ocean awareness sessions, quizzes, poster-making competitions, and recycling initiatives.
Novotel Jaipur Convention Centre hosted a programme featuring a sustainability pledge campaign, tree plantation drive, bicycle day, sustainability quiz, and poster-making competition, while Novotel Guwahati organised a “Best Out of Waste” activity for hotel associates.
Guests and families also participated in interactive conservation-themed activities at properties including Novotel Kolkata Hotel & Residences, Novotel Hyderabad Airport, Novotel Mumbai International Airport, Novotel Pune Nagar Road, and Pullman & Novotel New Delhi Aerocity. These included educational games developed in collaboration with WWF France, turtle awareness activities, ocean-themed quizzes, and sustainability videos.
Focus on responsible dining
The campaign also highlighted sustainable food practices across participating hotels. Novotel Vijayawada Varun showcased sustainable seafood preparation through a zero-waste cooking demonstration, while Pullman & Novotel New Delhi Aerocity organised a chef-led session on sustainable recipes and responsible sourcing. Several properties also curated ocean-themed brunches and sustainability-focused dining experiences.
Vineet Mishra, Vice President – Operations, Accor South Asia, said, “At Accor, sustainability is an integral part of how we operate and engage with our communities. Through Novotel’s ongoing global partnership with WWF France, our hotels across India have come together to drive meaningful local action, from conservation initiatives and awareness programmes to community-led environmental efforts. It is inspiring to see our teams and local communities unite around a shared purpose of protecting our oceans and natural ecosystems. Every small action contributes to creating a more sustainable future for generations to come.”
The World Ocean Day campaign forms part of Novotel’s broader sustainability programme, which includes expanding plant-forward dining, reducing single-use plastics, promoting responsible seafood sourcing, and supporting environmental education across its global portfolio.
