SITA has acquired Big Blue Analytics, the developer of OCC Assistant Manager (OCCam), an AI-powered disruption management platform designed to help airlines recover quickly from operational disruptions.
Airline disruptions remain one of the industry’s costliest challenges, costing carriers billions of dollars annually. OCCam addresses this problem by simultaneously evaluating aircraft availability, crew schedules, passenger itineraries and maintenance requirements to generate recovery plans within minutes.
Unlike traditional systems that resolve disruptions in sequential steps, OCCam optimises multiple operational constraints at the same time. This integrated approach reduces rework, improves decision-making and enables operations teams to respond more effectively during unexpected events.
According to SITA, airlines using OCCam have achieved disruption cost reductions of up to 30%. For a mid-sized airline operating around 100 aircraft, this could translate into savings of between USD 20 million and USD 30 million annually.
The acquisition supports SITA’s broader vision of creating an Intelligent Operations Control Center where planning, monitoring and recovery functions are integrated into a single AI-driven platform. The company also plans to incorporate advanced technologies such as large language models and agent-based systems.
By combining Big Blue Analytics’ optimisation engine with its existing aviation solutions, SITA aims to help airlines predict disruptions earlier, automate routine recovery processes and improve operational efficiency, ultimately delivering better outcomes for airlines and passengers alike.
