Summit enters Arunachal with Dirang resort

India’s hospitality expansion into lesser-explored Himalayan destinations continues to gather pace as hotel operators increasingly target experience-led and low-density leisure markets beyond traditional hill stations. Summit Hotels & Resorts has now expanded into Arunachal Pradesh with the launch of Rungkhung Village Resort in Dirang.

Summit Hotels & Resorts announced the addition of Rungkhung Village Resort under The Signature Collection, marking the group’s entry into Arunachal Pradesh and strengthening its footprint across the Eastern Himalayan region.

Located in Dirang Valley overlooking the Kameng River, the boutique retreat has been positioned as a nature-led mountain stay catering to travellers seeking immersive and slower-paced holiday experiences.

The property features Premium View Rooms and Junior Suites with private balconies overlooking the river and surrounding valleys. According to the company, the resort’s interiors combine contemporary comforts with local Arunachali influences through warm tones, soft textures, and regional design elements.

Focus on experiential Himalayan tourism

The launch reflects growing demand for less-commercialised leisure destinations across Northeast India, particularly among travellers seeking quieter alternatives to crowded hill stations.

The resort includes an all-day dining restaurant serving multi-cuisine and Northeast specialities alongside landscaped gardens, bonfire spaces, and outdoor relaxation areas designed to connect guests with the surrounding natural environment.

Guests will also have access to curated local experiences and nature-based activities as part of the resort offering.

Sumit Mitruka, CEO, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said, “Dirang is an emerging destination with immense natural appeal, and we see growing interest from travellers looking for less crowded, experience-driven locations.”

He added, “Our approach has been to create a property that stays true to the destination while offering the comfort and consistency that guests expect from the Summit brand.”

Expansion across emerging leisure markets

The addition of Rungkhung Village Resort aligns with Summit Hotels & Resorts’ wider strategy of building boutique hospitality offerings across emerging destinations in East and Northeast India.

Founded in 2009, the hospitality group currently operates more than 30 hotels and resorts across over 17 destinations, with a strong presence across hill stations and leisure markets in eastern India.

The company said it is also expanding into temple destinations and lesser-known mountain towns while targeting a portfolio of 50 properties by 2030.

Summit Hotels & Resorts currently employs more than 1,000 people, with the company highlighting local community employment and destination-led hospitality as part of its long-term growth strategy.
