India’s tourism startup ecosystem is expanding beyond major metros, with 58% of the country’s 1,497 DPIIT-recognised tourism startups now operating in tier II and III cities, according to a recent PIB tourism overview. The startups are spread across 262 districts and have collectively generated 13,919 jobs. The government said these ventures are driving innovation across travel technology, homestays, rural tourism, AI-enabled travel planning, and smart mobility solutions. The data highlights the growing role of emerging cities in India’s tourism entrepreneurship landscape, supported by the government’s Startup India initiative and efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure across the country.
