Overseas travel spending by Indians declined sharply in March 2026, according to the latest Reserve Bank of India data under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme. Indians spent over US$ 1 billion on foreign travel during the month, down by US$ 212 million from February. Holiday travel and international credit card settlements continued to account for the largest share of spending. Industry experts attribute the slowdown to rising global oil prices, pressure on the rupee, and increasing caution among travellers amid global economic uncertainty. Despite the decline, travel remained one of the biggest categories of outward remittances from India during the financial year.
