The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) has concluded a four-day familiarisation (FAM) tour across North and Middle Andaman, covering Baratang, Rangat, Mayabunder and Diglipur, as part of efforts to diversify tourism beyond the traditional Port Blair-Havelock-Neil circuit. The initiative brought together tour operators, boat operators, Panchayati Raj Institutions and government officials to identify infrastructure gaps and tourism opportunities. Key industry demands included a passenger waiting shed at BaratangJetty, streamlined truck movement to reduce congestion, recognition of GP Rating Certificates, fresh maritime crew training programmes and capacity-building for boat operators. During meetings with the North & Middle Andaman district administration, AATO also proposed tourism infrastructure upgrades at Ramnagar Beach and the launch of a Monsoon Tourism Festival to boost visitor traffic. AATO President M. Vinod said the association will submit a comprehensive report with recommendations to the administration for balanced and sustainable tourism development across the islands.
