The Asia-Pacific region led the global aviation recovery in 2024, recording a 22.6 per cent rise in international passenger traffic, the highest among all regions, according to the IATA World Air Transport Statistics (WATS) 2025. The strong growth was driven by the continued reopening of major markets and rising demand across key aviation hubs, including India, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.
Globally, airlines carried 4.89 billion passengers during the year, up 9.4 per cent from 2023, while international traffic increased 13.6 per cent compared to 5.7 per cent growth in domestic travel. Passenger load factors also reached a record 83.5 per cent, highlighting strong demand for air travel. For India’s travel and aviation industry, the report signals growing opportunities for international connectivity, outbound tourism and inbound visitor arrivals as airlines continue expanding capacity across Asia-Pacific. The findings reinforce the region’s position as the key engine of global aviation growth, supporting tourism, trade and cross-border business travel.
