Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has encouraged tourists to explore destinations such as Dima Hasao, Haflong and Amreng instead of travelling primarily to neighbouring Shillong.
Sarma stressed the importance of developing Assam’s own tourism attractions and creating greater awareness of destinations within the state.
The Chief Minister highlighted Dima Hasao and Haflong as destinations with significant tourism potential that can offer travellers an alternative to established hill destinations in the Northeast.
He also said the state is working to improve tourism infrastructure and connectivity to make emerging destinations more accessible to visitors.
Airports at Amreng and Majuli are targeted for development during his tenure, with improved air connectivity expected to support tourism growth and regional development.
The focus forms part of Assam’s broader effort to promote new tourism destinations, attract more visitors and strengthen the state’s tourism economy.
