Domestic travellers continue to dominate Jammu & Kashmir’s tourism landscape, accounting for nearly 95 per cent of total visitor arrivals, according to Director Tourism Kashmir, Syed Qamar Sajad. The remaining five per cent comprises foreign tourists, whose numbers are gradually recovering after a temporary slowdown triggered by global geopolitical developments.
Tourism authorities are now working on a long-term strategy that balances infrastructure expansion with environmental conservation, alongside consultations with industry stakeholders across Jammu and Kashmir. The roadmap aims to strengthen visitor facilities, improve connectivity and promote sustainable tourism without compromising the region’s ecological assets. Officials believe these measures will help the Union Territory maintain growth momentum while gradually diversifying its source markets and increasing the contribution of international tourism in the years ahead.
