Goa recorded a strong start to 2026, welcoming around 28.5 lakh visitors between January and March. This performance closely matches the record-breaking first quarter of 2025, showing resilience despite global travel uncertainties and economic pressures.
A major driver of growth was the expansion of Goa’s MICE segment. Events like India Energy Week 2026 attracted over 75,000 delegates and participants from more than 120 countries. Additionally, the World Legends Pro T20 League boosted sports tourism, further strengthening visitor inflows.
Festivals such as Goa Carnival and Shigmotsav also played a key role in sustaining demand. These events supported local economies by increasing participation across communities, small businesses, and tourism operators throughout the state.
According to Rohan A Khaunte, the growth reflects a shift toward high-value tourism, including destination weddings and experiential travel. Goa continues to strengthen its position as a year-round destination, moving beyond its traditional image of beach tourism.
Domestic connectivity has been another major contributor. Improved flight links across India have made Goa more accessible, boosting domestic travel demand. The destination wedding segment remained strong, driving high occupancy and revenue across hospitality services.
Although March saw a slight dip due to global factors like rising fuel costs and geopolitical tensions, overall performance remained stable. With evolving travel trends, recovering cruise tourism, and a strong pipeline of events, Goa is well-positioned to sustain growth through the rest of 2026.
