IATA launches the ‘Baggage Community System’, a digital platform for seamless baggage handling

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched the Baggage Community System (BCS), a new digital platform designed to curb the perennial headache of lost and delayed luggage. Announced at the IATA Ground Handling Conference, the platform serves as a modern bridge for communication. Historically, airports and airlines have relied on outdated teletype networks to track bags. The BCS introduces an internet-based hub that translates data between old systems and modern tracking technology. By enabling real-time, shared data across airlines and ground handlers, the system aims to catch baggage errors before planes take off, ensuring smoother journeys for travellers worldwide.
