IHCL expands Tamil Nadu portfolio to 33 hotels with Heritage Tree of Life signing in Chettinad

Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has strengthened its presence in Tamil Nadu by signing Tree of Life Kanadukathan, a 20-key heritage hotel in Chettinad, taking its portfolio in the state to 33 hotels, including 14 under development. The brownfield project will restore and convert a traditional Chettiar mansion into a boutique experiential property, reinforcing IHCL’s focus on heritage-led tourism and emerging leisure destinations. The signing comes as demand for culturally immersive travel continues to grow across India, with Chettinad gaining prominence for its distinctive architecture, cuisine and heritage festivals. Developed in partnership with AMPA Group, the hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, lounge, spa, swimming pool and fitness centre. IHCL said the project aligns with its strategy of expanding its Tree of Life brand into niche destinations that offer authentic local experiences. The addition is expected to further strengthen Chettinad’s tourism ecosystem while supporting the preservation and adaptive reuse of the region’s iconic heritage properties.
