Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has announced the launch of the upgraded Golden Chariot for the 2026–27 tourism season, introducing enhanced onboard facilities and improved travel experiences for luxury rail tourists. The revamped train aims to showcase the heritage, culture and landscapes of South India through curated premium journeys.
According to IRCTC, the luxury train now features redesigned interiors and upgraded cabins equipped with plush furnishings, smart televisions and Wi-Fi-enabled entertainment systems. The company stated that the upgraded experience combines traditional royal-style hospitality with modern comfort and technology for travellers.
Passenger safety has also been strengthened through the installation of CCTV surveillance systems and advanced fire alarm mechanisms across the train. The Golden Chariot can accommodate up to 80 guests across 40 cabins, including double-bed cabins, twin-bed cabins and a specially designed cabin for differently abled passengers.
IRCTC has introduced three curated itineraries for the upcoming tourist season. The six-day “Pride of Karnataka” journey covers destinations including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hampi and Goa, allowing travellers to explore heritage sites, palaces and coastal destinations.
Another itinerary, “Jewels of South,” takes passengers through cultural and historical destinations such as Mahabalipuram, Thanjavur and Kochi alongside Mysuru. IRCTC said the route focuses on South India’s temple architecture, coastal heritage and cultural experiences.
For travellers seeking shorter journeys, the “Glimpses of Karnataka” itinerary offers a four-day luxury rail experience covering selected heritage attractions across Karnataka. With the relaunch of the upgraded Golden Chariot, IRCTC aims to strengthen India’s luxury tourism and premium rail travel segment while attracting both domestic and international travellers.
