The long-pending Mamnoor Airport project in Warangal, Telangana, has moved forward with the completion of land acquisition and transfer of the required land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), according to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The state government has allocated INR 295 crore for the land acquisition.
Reddy also invited members of the public to suggest names for the proposed airport. The development follows earlier discussions with the Centre on expediting the project, with the Telangana government confirming that the required land had been acquired and handed over to AAI.
The airport is expected to improve air connectivity for Warangal and surrounding areas while supporting tourism, industry, education, employment and investment. The state government has previously proposed facilities including air cargo and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) infrastructure at Mamnoor.
In July, Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu said the airport should be developed to international standards and supported incorporating Warangal’s Kakatiya heritage and culture into its design. The Centre also indicated that work would be expedited following completion of land acquisition.
The Telangana government has described Mamnoor as an important connectivity project for the region. The airport is expected to serve Warangal and nearby districts while improving access to major cultural and tourism attractions, including those associated with the Kakatiya heritage and the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara.
Reddy said the completion of land acquisition and handover marks an important step towards taking the airport project forward. In September, the state government said the project had received the necessary approvals and that land acquisition had been completed, while earlier discussions indicated that construction-related tenders were expected to progress subsequently.
