The Northeastern Region recorded 9.02 million domestic tourist visits and 100,256 foreign tourist visits during January-June 2026, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Assam led domestic traffic with 4.60 million visits, followed by Sikkim at 2.35 million and Arunachal Pradesh at 627,084. Sikkim registered the highest foreign tourist visits at 43,734, while Assam recorded 32,471. The figures were shared by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Tourism Minister in the Lok Sabha on tourism development in the region.
