SpiceJet has boosted its operational strength by adding five new Boeing 737 aircraft, including one Boeing 737 MAX, as part of its ongoing winter expansion strategy. This move brings the total number of aircraft inducted in just over a month to 15, marking one of the airline’s most rapid expansions in recent years. The additions include 14 planes acquired on a damp lease and the reactivation of a grounded Boeing 737 MAX, signaling the carrier’s intent to ramp up capacity and connectivity ahead of the busy travel season.
With these latest additions, SpiceJet’s operational fleet now stands at 35 aircraft. All five new planes have already begun commercial operations, enhancing connectivity on high-demand domestic and international routes. This fleet boost will allow the airline to better serve routes experiencing increased passenger traffic during the festive and holiday season, improving flight availability and operational efficiency.
According to the airline’s statement, daily flight operations have jumped from 100 to 176 flights per day since the start of the winter expansion drive. This 76% increase represents a significant improvement in network capacity and passenger convenience, as the airline continues to rebuild its market presence amid rising competition in India’s aviation sector.
Chief Business Officer Debojo Maharshi said, “SpiceJet’s winter expansion is a reflection of strong market demand and our readiness to meet it. With 15 new aircraft and growing daily operations, we’re expanding our footprint and reinforcing our commitment to reliable, affordable, and convenient air travel.”
The expansion comes as SpiceJet strengthens its domestic market share and prepares for a stronger international footprint. The focus on adding Boeing 737 and 737 MAX aircraft supports the airline’s push for fuel efficiency and better route flexibility, especially for medium-haul flights.
Following the announcement, SpiceJet shares surged 3% in Thursday’s trading session, reflecting investor optimism about the airline’s growth trajectory and improved operational outlook. With the expanded fleet, SpiceJet is set to play a stronger role in India’s booming aviation sector this winter.
