UP constitutes Global Advisory Council; Prateek Hira welcomes tourism’s role in Vision 2047

Uttar Pradesh has constituted a Global Advisory Council under its State Transformation Commission to advise on the state’s ambition of becoming a US$ 1 trillion economy by 2047. Prateek Hira, Founder, Tornos, and the council’s tourism industry representative, welcomed the recognition of tourism as a pillar of economic growth, calling it an important first step towards strengthening the sector.

“I’m very happy that tourism has received its due recognition in the Vision 2047 for Uttar Pradesh. The government has recognised it as one of the pillars of economic growth and development. As someone from the tourism industry, I feel excited that a state recognises tourism as an engine of growth. Being the only tourism representative on this commission, it will be an honour to contribute to the role and give back to the industry,” Hira said.

He added that he intends to bring tourism into a more organised framework in the state. “I have my agenda in place to bring tourism in a more organised manner in Uttar Pradesh, rather than allowing it to develop in a fragmented way. Recognising tourism within this commission is itself a big achievement. It is a first step, and tourism will play an important role in the state’s economic growth and development. Without tourism, you cannot really think of economic growth and development for any state or country,” he said.

The council, chaired by former NITI Aayog CEO Parameswaran Iyer, will advise the state on economic transformation, investment, employment generation, industrial development, and policy reforms.
