UP to name Jewar Airport after Narendra Modi

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Friday, October 9, 2026, approved a proposal to rename Noida International Airport at Jewar as ‘Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar’. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision following the Cabinet meeting, stating that the Council of Ministers had passed a resolution supporting the renaming.

Adityanath said the state government was grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the airport project, describing it as Uttar Pradesh’s largest airport and one expected to develop into a major aviation hub for the country. The proposed name recognises the Prime Minister in connection with the development of the airport.

The Chief Minister also highlighted infrastructure development across Uttar Pradesh, crediting the Centre’s initiatives for improvements in road connectivity and transport infrastructure. He said 42 national highways spanning 2,483 kilometres had been constructed in the state at a cost of approximately INR 60,000 crore.

Adityanath further cited the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway, Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway among the completed road projects. He said these developments had strengthened connectivity and contributed to Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure expansion.

The Chief Minister also referred to the preservation of religious and cultural heritage, including the consecration of Ram Lalla at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya after a wait of around 500 years. He described the hoisting of the Dharma flag atop the temple as a significant moment for the state and the country.

The renaming remains a proposal approved by the state Cabinet, as announced by Adityanath. The announcement comes amid the development of Jewar airport as a major aviation infrastructure project in the National Capital Region, with the state government highlighting its anticipated role in strengthening air connectivity and supporting Uttar Pradesh’s future growth.
