Uttarakhand is set to develop eight new eco-tourism destinations inspired by the successful JabarkhetNature Reserve model, signalling a shift towards low-impact, conservation-led tourism in the Himalayan state. The Forest Department plans to identify ecologically sensitive locations where tourism, biodiversity conservation and community livelihoods can coexist through scientific management and private participation. Officials say the Jabarkhet model — known for habitat restoration, guided nature experiences, and local community engagement — will serve as the blueprint for the new sites.
