VFS Global launches Maharashtra’s first Model Sub-Registrar Office in Pune

VFS Global, a trusted technology services provider empowering secure global mobility for governments and citizens, has launched Maharashtra’s first Model Sub-Registrar Office (SRO) in Pune, in consortium with WE Excel Software Pvt. Ltd., aimed at streamlining and digitally transforming property registration into a fast, transparent and citizen-centric system.

The new Model SRO was formally inaugurated on August 13, 2026, by Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of Revenue, Government of Maharashtra, in the presence of Ravindra Binwade, Inspector General of Registration (IGR), Government of Maharashtra; Jiten Vyas, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Business Development at VFS Global; and other senior government dignitaries.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Bawankule described the initiative as a significant milestone in Maharashtra’s efforts to modernise property registration and improve citizen-centric public services. He noted that the programme combines strong government oversight with modern infrastructure and digital systems to deliver a faster, more transparent and convenient experience for citizens. He added that the Model SRO initiative is specifically designed to address longstanding issues such as overcrowding and long waiting times, while continuing to uphold high standards of governance and regulatory compliance. The minister expressed satisfaction at seeing the first centre become operational and reaffirmed the government’s intention to expand the model across the state in a phased manner.

The launch follows an earlier development in early 2026, when VFS Global, in consortium with WE Excel Software Pvt. Ltd., secured a five-year contract from the Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps under the Government of Maharashtra to establish 60 state-of-the-art Model Sub-Registrar Offices across the state.
