West Bengal will double its airports from four to eight within two years, Rammohan Naidu, Union Civil Aviation Minister, said. The Centre and state signed an MoU covering projects at Hasimara, Kalaikunda, Balurghat and Chharra in Purulia. Naidu said, “We want West Bengal to frame a civil aviation policy to attract investors, airlines and airport investment, alongside stronger aviation manufacturing. There is also a need for greater international connectivity from Kolkata.” The projects will strengthen regional connectivity, tourism, trade and logistics.
