WTM London has recorded its highest-ever charitable contribution to international safe water charity Just a Drop, raising £16,600 through exhibitor donations and matched funding. The contribution will fund a watershed restoration programme in Nicaragua, reinforcing the event’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and community development.
WTM London, part of RX Global’s exhibition portfolio, has made its largest-ever donation to Just a Drop after exhibitors and attendees contributed a record amount during the 2025 edition of the show. Exhibitor donations of £8,300 were matched by WTM London, taking the total to £16,600, while additional voluntary contributions were also made through the event’s registration process.
The funds will support a Watershed Restoration Programme in Nicaragua, implemented through Just a Drop’s local partner, El Porvenir. The initiative will focus on the Waslala and Camoapa regions, where rural farming communities face increasing challenges from drought and soil degradation.
Supporting sustainable farming
The programme aims to restore watersheds, which naturally retain and distribute water, improving access to safe water for local communities while enhancing soil fertility. It will also promote sustainable agricultural practices, including agroforestry, alongside soil and water conservation measures and community-led environmental education.
The project is expected to restore forest cover, improve water management, strengthen livelihoods, and build long-term resilience for agriculture-dependent communities. Additional co-funding will further expand the programme’s reach and impact.
Although Nicaragua has abundant water resources, years of civil conflict and recurring natural disasters have damaged water infrastructure, leaving many communities in drought-prone areas without reliable access to safe water. According to the charity, 19% of the country’s population currently lacks access to safe water.
Long-standing partnership
Just a Drop has been WTM London’s charity partner for 28 years. During this period, WTM London has raised more than £140,000, supporting 12,574 people through 17 safe water projects across nine countries. The partnership has now been renewed for another year.
Chris Carter-Chapman, Event Director, WTM London, said: “We are proud to be a Just a Drop Founding Partner and delighted to see our financial contribution rise to new heights in 2025 thanks to the continued generosity of show exhibitors and attendees.
“Championing sustainability is an important part of our ethos and it’s always satisfying to see the real impact we can make by supporting Just a Drop’s vital work in this field.”
Fiona Jeffery OBE, Founder and President, Just a Drop, said: “Access to safe water changes lives, not only by protecting the health of communities, but also by securing the livelihoods they rely on.
“Thanks to the record-breaking donation from WTM London 2025, we will be able to support a watershed project in Nicaragua, which will change the lives of rural communities both now and in the years to come. We’re very grateful to WTM for their continued support and to everyone who has helped make this project a reality.”
Just a Drop will exhibit at WTM London, scheduled from 3–5 November 2026 at Excel London, where visitors can learn more about the charity’s global water projects.
