Kolkata aims to become eastern India’s MICE hub with ₹2,000 crore business target: Minister


West Bengal has unveiled an ambitious plan to strengthen its meetings and events sector by setting up a dedicated MICE Promotion Bureau in 2026–27. The initiative aims to position Kolkata as eastern India’s leading destination for conferences, exhibitions, and corporate events while boosting tourism-led economic growth. Dr Shankar Ghosh, Minister-in-Charge, Tourism & Parliamentary Affairs, Government of West Bengal, said, “We have set a target of making Kolkata the MICE hub of eastern India by organising at least 2,000 events and generating business worth ₹2,000 crore. This initiative will create new opportunities for the tourism and hospitality sectors while strengthening the state’s position in the business events market.”
