IndiGo has commenced its new Vijayawada–Varanasi–Kolkata flight service, with 129 passengers travelling from Vijayawada to Varanasi and 89 arriving from Varanasi on the inaugural day on August 13. The service, inaugurated virtually by Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, operates three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Flight 6E6502 departs Vijayawada at 6.20 pm, reaches Varanasi at 8.15 pm and continues to Kolkata, while the return service operates from Kolkata via Varanasi to Vijayawada. The new direct connection brings two prominent pilgrimage destinations—Vijayawada’s Kanaka Durga temple and Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath—closer by air. The Centre has also indicated plans for additional Vijayawada connections to Pune, Ahmedabad and Kochi.
