Vijayawada Airport commissions four new boarding bridges

Vijayawada Airport has commissioned four new Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs) at Bays 13, 15, 17 and 19 at a cost of INR 11.90 crore, further enhancing passenger convenience and operational efficiency.

The new boarding bridges were inaugurated by Airport Director G. Gopalakrishnan and have been brought into operational service, enabling seamless boarding and disembarkation directly between the terminal and aircraft.

The additional PBBs improve accessibility for senior citizens, passengers with reduced mobility and wheelchair users while protecting travellers from adverse weather conditions during boarding.

The infrastructure is also expected to reduce boarding and deboarding times, improving the overall travel experience and supporting the airport’s growing passenger traffic.

The New Integrated Terminal Building has been designed with provisions for 10 Passenger Boarding Bridges and 11 aircraft parking stands. During the first phase, five PBBs at Bays 11, 12, 14, 16 and 18 were installed and made operational.

The Airports Authority of India said the latest addition reflects its continued commitment to strengthening airport infrastructure and enhancing passenger services.
